THE 5TH “FIGHT-4-FITNESS” SEES THE LARGEST PARTICIPATION TO DATE AT SUNSET PARK
LAS VEGAS (March 10, 2020) The Floyd Mayweather Jr. Foundation (TFMJF) returned to Sunset Park for its 80’ & 90’s 5th Fight-4-Fitness event at Sunset Park which featured a 5K race, 1K family fun run/walk, and Community Day. The event welcomed new & returning guests and vendors bringing in the largest turnout the event has seen since its inception in 2015.
Blazin’ Ones Coach Robert Bolden and 2018 & 2020 recipient was on site and couldn’t help but notice the large turnout, “I recall 2018 being a big event, but there are more track teams out here this year and games for the kids. This is a wonderful blessing to see us out here all uniting for a bigger cause.
The Floyd Mayweather Jr. Foundation united runners and families inside Sunset Park to help spread health & fitness awareness in a fun and interactive environment. The festivities were kicked off by a yoga stretch session to loosen the runners up courtesy of Bluma Bodies then the 5K runners lined up and were off! Following the 5K race was the 1K family fun run/walk where kids of all ages lined up for a route just over half a mile through the park and were awarded participation medals at the finish line. Children under the age of 12 gathered together and made teams for the Scavenger Hunt while the race was happening, and was challenged to work together to find hidden items all across the event area.
“Cash Flow” Diaz, a highly touted decorated boxing amateur, finished 2nd in the 5K race said, “I have a fight coming up in March that I’ve been training hard for, but I was especially training for this 5K. I knew there would be a lot of track teams out here and that the competition would be tough. I finished in just under 18 and a half minutes and even did a sprint to the finish line. I’m really happy with my time. Fight-4-Fitness is nice, the kids really come out and have a great time on a beautiful Sunday like this and it’s an honor to participate I hope they keep this event going.”
Former WBC Champion, Shawn Porter, was also in attendance and returned for his second Fight-4-Fitness, “It was fun, says Porter. “I feel like there’s more competition out there. The first year was easy, but this one was a bit more challenging. It was great to see everyone out there cheering their runners on, and us runners motivating everyone in the race to keep going. It’s a wonderful experience!”
Returning sponsor and founder of Forgotten Not Gone, a non-profit organization that helps veterans overcome obstacles to reintegrating into society by getting them physically active by riding special recumbent trikes, was more than thrilled to return to Fight-4-Fitness for the 5th time. “We’re out here having a great time with our vets and the children, we’ve been doing this event since the first year, and we’re honored that Floyd Mayweather Jr. Foundation continues to have us. We have an entire fleet of trikes. We’re just happy to have people out of the house and getting active. It’s really a great event for the entire family.”
After the races concluded, all race participants were ushered into the main Community Day park area for an award ceremony to recognize the 5K race participants. Community Day featured breakfast & lunch from our sponsored food vendors, Munch Box, Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, Nevada Chicken Café, and Real Water who kept guests hydrated all day long.
